More comfort for 2017

In March 2015 Anne and I started our mandate on board S/V Curanta Cridhe. The boat was in dry dock in Ardrossan, Scotland. Today, Curanta Cridhe is safely secured in Nanny Cay, Tortola, BVI. Ready for the worst part of the hurricane season, tightly strapped to the ground, she is resting after heighten months of intense navigation.

A summer cruising the beautiful Hebrides Islands, then the 6 000 nm delivery from Scotland to the Caribbean, a charter season in the BVI’s, a first place in her multihull class at the 2016 BVI Spring Regatta, several summer charters in the Leewards Islands, now time has come for the boat to rest…

We are going to take advantage of this navigation pause to do an impressive list of improvements to the boat. Curanta Cridhe is already an amazing sailing catamaran, but her owners want her to be even more appealing to her charter guests. So, there will be a new generator to be installed on the boat boosting the electric power on-board to 14 KW. This will allow air conditioning everywhere in the boat at all times, even if the water maker, the ice maker, expresso machine and many other systems are working. We will take advantage of installing the new generator to redesign the starboard side of the cockpit and integrate a new bar counter along with a sink, cold water dispenser, a new fridge and ice maker. Anne, who is an interior designer by trade, has invested numerous hours on the concept. She will write a blog on this special project.

Another objective in improving the comfort of our guests on board is to bring more shaded zones at all times of the day. Consequently, with the help of a good sailmaker, we designed a custom awning for the fore deck. This awning will cover the two trampolines and - starting at the bows of the sailboat - will go aft the mast, covering a part of the roof where two important hatches ventilates the salon. We always experience the situation of closing the hatches when a squall comes in… specially at night when everybody is asleep! With our new awning, no need to close the hatches as the rain will be drained to the sides of the boat instead of falling inside the cabins. Some guests prefer to feel the warmth of the tropics rather than the cold blast of the A/C. The new owning will allow this to happen without letting the rain wet their beds. Three additional awnings will also be added aft around the cockpit area. This will increase significantly the shaded surface on the stern part of the vessel.

Two new 50 Amp shore power electric entries will be installed with two new shore power lines. They will replace the 30 Amp entry we had originally which was clearly insufficient in charter mode. The electric demand - specially when the 4 air conditioning units are working - is important when we are in a marina.

A new park of 12 V domestic batteries will replace the original batteries that need to be changed. This will complete the huge electric retrofit on the boat. Sailing in tropical waters creates a greater demand in electric energy, considering the use of A/C, the increased demand from the fridges and freezers, the amount of cold drinks and ice consumed by the guests on-board etc… With these improvements, Curanta Cridhe will offer the most comfortable vacations you can dream of…

Last but not least, a brand new 15’ AB tender, equipped with a 70 HP Yamaha four strokes engine, will replace the 13’ tender we originally had last year. This superb tender will come along with new toys such as a wake board and a ‘’Great Big Mable’’ capable of towing up to four riders at once. This new tender will offer a safer, dryer ride to our guests. It will also welcome up to 7 people on-board at once. The powerful engine will allow a lot of toys activities that were not possible with the previous tender.

Lots of fun to come on Curanta Cridhe with more toys and water sports to enjoy!

This will complete the initial toy inventory made of the Sea Kayak, two Sub-Wings and Stand-Up Paddle Board already available.

With over US $ 100 000 of new improvements invested on board S/V Curanta Cridhe this fall, the owners are making a strong commitment in providing everything required for the very best charter experience on the market. A unique sailing catamaran, in pristine condition, equipped with state of the art systems, is now offered to the guests looking for the ultimate high end crewed yacht vacation.

The fine cuisine prepared by Anne last season has been highly acclaimed by all our guests. In several occasions our guests refused to go ashore for dinner as initially planned and insisted to stay on-board to enjoy Anne’s gastronomical food.

This, combined to an impressive list of fine wines and liquors available on-board, completes the set-up that will produce unforgettable charter experiences for our guests.

We are looking forward to spending some amazing times with you next winter in the Caribbean on board Curanta Cridhe!
